Singapore Palooza

Hello all! I am back and our next destination to where we will be travelling to is actually a pretty strict country; for example this country that we will be travelling to has banned chewing gum, and has a $1,000 fine if found chewing gum! Sounds familiar? No..well we are going to…Singapore! Singapore is an amazing country that has a lot of interesting facts and new things for visitors to discover. The culture is much stricter than in The United States. For example chewing gum, smoking, dumping and much more are completely illegal in Singapore; you will be fined.

Some Interesting facts about Singapore is that they are actually the fastest walkers in the entire world! Nothing compared to you morning walk haha! Now let’s discuss an important thing that visitors and/or newcomers should know when travelling to Singapore; the currency and the money exchange. It’s important to know this information to be prepared when you’re already in the country. First of all, Singapore uses the Singapore Dollar, and its important to know where there’s better exchange rates.

There are 5 places that have good exchange rates in Singapore. The 5 places are The Money Changers at The Arcade at Raffles Place, Money Changers at Lucky Plaza, Money Changer at Mustafa Centre, Money Changers at People’s Park Complex Chinatown, and Money Changers at Parkway Parade.

As you being tourists, people will attempt to take advantage of you and your money but it’s necessary to have a head on your shoulders and understand what is a scam and what isn’t. First and foremost Singapore is known for its beautiful view and it’s a beautiful sight, although there’s other ways to see the view instead of the average The Singapore Flyer, and it costs approximately 50 Singapore dollars, so why not go for a free alternative with the same outcome? So instead go to the Old Esplanade, where you can see the beautiful city and its amazing lights and have a night to remember, and enjoy the view.

The second most important thing is do not hop on the tourist “Hop On Hop Off” buses in Singapore, because you will spend so much of your money; instead walk on the by-lanes and if you need to use transportation use MRT (Mass Rapid Transportation). It’ll save you time and money. The Hop On Hop Off buses are approximately $25 USD. MRT is more reasonable, because citizens of Singapore use it and it isn’t a big tourist attraction, but it’ll get you to places that you need to get to.

Also walking is the best, because you get to go and see things at your own pace and go into things that buses won’t even pass by. Explore and have fun!! Now when eating, instead of going to The expensive places on Boat Quay, and mind you they’re always crowded; go to the pubs and the restaurants in Clarke Quay instead. Brewerkz has amazing home brewed craft beer and amazing happy hours!

Also visit Iguana Cafe for some amazing Margaritas. To get a well priced and yummy meal go to the Central Mall in Clarke Quay, and get something to eat at their eateries. I know it’s hot and we all have the urge to buy some ice cream and buy it from the nearest place we see selling it, although I must warn you to not buy the ice cream from the ice cream parlors. Buy the ice cream from the streets and people, who are usually the ones making the ice cream from uncles and aunts, and the best thing is..their ice cream is all homemade and it’s only (drum roll) one Singaporean Dollar, which is technically $0.74 USD! You get such a good deal for amazing ice cream; just don’t get brain freeze from all the excitement haha.

Now of course, as a tourist you want to take advantage of all that Singapore has to offer, although one thing I suggest for you to look out for is The riverside boats that take you on little cruises. The reason being is that these boats look nice and promising, although when you’re on the boat itself all you see are blazing lights and it’s not so pretty to see around you anymore. Instead, get a cheaper and a better way of seeing the riverside by walking along it. Let everything around you on Clarke Quay just go with the flow and enjoy the beautiful views of Singapore and everything that it has to offer.

Well these are my tips on how to travel well, affordable and still having fun in Singapore. I hope I see you on our next trip!

-Toodles!
